Mon, 09/17/2018 - 12:30pm

Beverly Jordan Spear of Wiscasset died Sept. 14, 2018 after a brief illness.

Beverly was born in Portland, Maine in 1929. She was the daughter of Stanley Jordan (descendent of the original six Jordan brothers of Cape Elizabeth) and Mabel Harriman of Deer Isle.

Beverly grew up in Cape Elizabeth. She attended high school there and then graduated from the University of Maine at Orono. While in college she met Robert Spear and they married in 1952 and enjoyed 58 years together. They lived in various locations right after college: Stratton, Corinna, Hartford, Connecticut, and Winterport. Typical of the time, Beverly followed Bob’s career around the state until they finally settled in Wiscasset in 1962. In Wiscasset, she worked at Povich’s clothing store, ran a consignment and antique store out of her home and finished her career working at the Lincoln County Probate Office. She enjoyed that job where she had a good community of friends and could keep an eye on the “comings and goings” of her house on Main Street. In her spare time, she enjoyed various crafts projects, theater, traveling, homemaking, gardening, birding, and participating in her kids and grandkids activities.

Beverly is survived by her son Steve Spear and wife Patty of Leland, North Carolina, Nate Spear of Brunswick, and Rebecca Spear and husband Rob of Bozeman, Montana. In addition, her grandchildren Bobby, Tommy, Alexus, Jocie, Julia and Nina will miss her grandmother’s wit and company.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert Spear, brother Glen Jordan, and sister Gloria Jones.

The family wishes to thank all the friends and family that visited her during her illness this winter. Special thanks to Joan Cumming, one of her closest friends, for her daily companionship and laughter. Internment has happened and the services will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wiscasset Public Library, 21 High Street, Wiscasset, ME 04578 or online at Wiscasset.lib.me.us.
