Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library has Edgecomb photographer Bob Crink’s show, “Local.” Crink has been exhibiting at the library since 2016.

Crink is rarely without a camera and has been the go-to photographer for many organizations including Boothbay Railway Village Museum, Boothbay Region Health Center,  Boothbay Sea & Science Center,  Lincoln Arts Festival, town of Edgecomb, Wet Paint Tamworth, and the former Harbor Fest.

Crink’s passion for B&W photography was inspired by the work of Peter Lindburgh, particularly the B&W photographs of famous actresses in “Shadows on the Wall” (published in 2017) that caught Crink’s eye. In particular, it was the way Lindburgh presented each actress in a series of different poses against a dark background and revealed the inner spirit of each woman. What followed were two B&W shows, “Women of the Boothbay Region” in 2019 and “Women of the Boothbay Region II” in 2020. All of the images will be exhibited as framed 12” x 15” portraits.

And Lindburgh wasn’t Crink’s only inspiration to shoot in B&W. A line from one of his daughter Carrie’s poems, written years ago, lingers in memory - “Most people hide behind what they’re really feeling.” And Crink has been trying to capture what is hidden in every image.

In his 2022 show, “P to the 4th Power: Photographs of People and Places on the Peninsula,” he broadened his scope for viewers to enjoy.

“This year’s show is a little different from the others,” he said. “There are a few portraits of women in the region, some ballet dancers performing at the Waldo Theater, and a collection of B&W scenics, boats. Hilary (Bartlett) and I hung the show. And, as always, I have to thank Emily and Nick (Mirabile) at Woodsong Market for enlarging the photos for me.”

Crink’s “Local” is now in focus at the Library at 4 Oak St. Library hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.
