Celebrating continues for Friends’ first 60
Tuesday, Feb. 17, the Wiscasset Selectboard honored the Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library with a proclamation honoring their 60 years of service to the community. Tracey Whitney, president of the Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library, gratefully accepted this award on behalf of the members, many of whom were in attendance.
The first meeting of the Friends of the Wiscasset Public Library was held on Jan. 27, 1966. Starting with just 12 members, the Friends are now more than 50 members strong.
Following the goals in their mission statement, the Friends have assisted with and/or funded many programs and improvements at WPL. The Friends have worked to raise in excess of $13,000 annually for special projects within the library. The Friends strive to serve the community. The annual Christmas sale for children and adults provides an opportunity to purchase gifts for family members at minimal cost.
New members are always welcome.
The Friends meet every other month at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday, starting with the Annual Meeting in January. We begin with a coffee social followed by the business meeting at 10:15 a.m. Please join us. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet some of our members and learn about our current activities. Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 11 and we hope you will consider joining us. Be a Friend!
