Daniel J. Gagnon

Daniel James Gagnon, 26, formerly of Boothbay Harbor, died unexpectedly in Brunswick.

He was born April 6, 1992 in Damariscotta to Danny Gagnon and Susan Stockwell. Daniel grew up in Boothbay Harbor. He graduated from Boothbay Region High School in the class of 2010. He loved playing baseball on the high school team.

He worked at several jobs in the Boothbay area after high school, and joined the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department. Daniel had an unshakable passion for being a fireman, and was promoted to lieutenant with four years of faithful service to the Boothbay Harbor community. Daniel moved to Brunswick two years ago to begin work as a security officer at Bowdoin College. He loved his job at Bowdoin, and was recently promoted for his exemplary service.

Daniel was well known for his incredible sense of humor and his uncanny ability to bring joy to those around him. He had a self-less outlook and always thought of others before himself. He lived to make other people happy and believed in paying it forward. Daniel loved his family and friends, fishing, being on the ocean and the Red Sox. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Donald and Barbara Stockwell, and paternal grandfather, Roger Gagnon.

He is survived by his mother, Susan Stockwell of Boothbay Harbor; father, Danny Gagnon of Boothbay Harbor; girlfriend, Kim Fickett and Kim’s daughter, Leah Hyden, whom Daniel thought of as a daughter of Brunswick; grandmother, Shirley Cote of Edgecomb; brother, Andrew Brewer and his wife Krystal of Gorham; sister, Allison Brewer of Portland, Oregon; nieces, Hennessy, Sia and Aera of Gorham; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A service to celebrate Daniel’s life will be held Wednesday, June 13 at 1 p.m. at the Boothbay Region YMCA Fieldhouse, 261 Townsend Avenue, in Boothbay Harbor. The Rev. Peter Panagore will officiate. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Boothbay. A reception will follow the service at the home of Kris Ward, 106 Deer Run Road, Boothbay, Maine.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Daniel’s memory to the Boothbay Harbor Fire Department, 11 Howard Street, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
