We participated in a joint training exercise with Wiscasset, Westport Island, and Alna fire departments on “Search and Rescue,” hosted by the Wiscasset FD on July 15. The training included search and rescue, structural firefighting, salvage / overhaul ops, and vehicle fires. In addition, we had a training session on “Driver Training” at our July 22 meeting and “Firefighter Trivia” at our July 29 meeting.
Other training included our monthly “Truck Check” of all apparatus and equipment. Ongoing training is critical in maintaining our readiness to respond to any call.
We proudly dedicated our newest Engine 51 on July 3 to honor our fallen firefighter Gavin Martin, firefighter 51. Members of Verona, New Jersey fire department and Gavin’s family participated in the dedication ceremony. Engine 51 was honored to lead the 4th of July parade in Wiscasset.
At its July 7 meeting, the Select Board presented Fire Chief Roy Potter and his family with the Spirit of America award. Family members have dedicated years of service to protect people and property. The Spirit of America Award is an honor presented by the Spirit of America Foundation to recognize local individuals, organizations, or projects for outstanding community service and volunteerism.
