Edgecomb selectmen nod buying used fire truck
Edgecomb is purchasing a used fire truck, and looking to sell two older models. On April 14, selectmen voted, 2-0 with one abstention, to buy Wiscasset's Engine No. 7 for $16,680. Fire Chief Roy Potter told selectmen he is now looking to sell two other used Edgecomb fire trucks to offset the cost. "We are looking to sell No. 3, and we already have an offer," he said. "We are hoping for $20,000, but maybe $18,000 would be fine. The potential buyer offered $15,000."
Potter reported Engine No. 5 is the other model the department is selling. He said the department is looking to receive $6,000 to $8,000 in a potential sale.
In other action, selectmen received two bids for mowing five cemeteries. Selectmen accepted GPM Landscaping's bid of $7,545. GPM was the low bidder.
Selectmen also accepted Arsenault Property Care's tree planting bid. Selectmen authorized the business to purchase and plant a fir tree at the town hall for a price not exceeding $843.75.
Selectmen are hoping to re-establish the Town Hall Committee with former and new members. Selectmen want the re-organized committee to focus on "better use of town office space." Anyone interested in serving on the committee is urged to contact the board.
Chairman Michael Maxim said a proposed new public comment policy is in response to problems in other communities during public comment periods. "There has been some bad behavior around the region regarding public comment recently. This is a precautionary measure to lay the groundwork for a policy which lets selectmen get their work done, while allowing the public to take part in the conversation."
Selectmen reminded residents a public hearing on the municipal and school warrants will be held at 6 p.m. in the conference room on Wednesday, April 29. Selectmen meet next at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 28 in the conference room.
