EMT classes and water district among updates to board
EMT training and Water District updates were provided to Woolwich selectmen at their meeting on Monday, Sept. 15.
William Longley, town Emergency Medical Services Director, reviewed the training schedule for his department. Classes for current emergency medical technicians will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 17 and continue monthly on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at Woolwich Town Hall. The training is mandatory for all current emergency medical technicians in Woolwich.
For those who would like to become emergency medical technicians, a basic EMT class will begin on Nov. 4, and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Woolwich Town Hall, 13 Nequasset Road. The classes will continue through April 2, 2015. No previous training is needed to take the class, which costs $895 per participant.
Some participants may take the class at no charge, providing that they agree with the town on certain conditions. Under the agreement, the student must achieve a passing grade in the class, achieve a passing grade on the final exam and commit to three years of service as an EMT in Woolwich.
Michael Sinton, who serves as the Woolwich representative to the Bath Water District, provided an update for the board concerning recent activities. He reported that water lines had been replaced in Bath, and that the district is looking into similar work that might need to be done in Woolwich.
The Bath Water District has also undertaken replacement of a crumbling fish ladder at Nequasset Lake. Work is progressing on the ladder and involves consultation with engineers to provide the design for the project.
The town Communications Committee also announced that the Woolwich newsletter will soon be available online and notices of its publication will be sent to residents as inserts with the next tax bill.
