First Congo begins Lent with joint Ash Wednesday service at St. Philip’s
Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26, begins the Season of Lent. First Congregational Church UCC of Wiscasset will join St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in the St. Philip’s Parish Hall at 6 p.m. for a service of prayer and penitence. All are invited to participate in the moving and ancient ceremony of the Imposition of Ashes.
Throughout Lent, beginning with the 10 a.m. March 1 service at First Congregational Church of Wiscasset, the Rev. Josh Fitterling will be offering a preaching series based on the Lord’s Prayer. Each week the congregation will consider a phrase from this well-known prayer starting with “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.” On Easter, the series will end with “Forever and ever, amen.”
Additional Lenten services will include a candlelight service on Maundy Thursday, April 9, beginning at 7 p.m. at First Congo. A joint Good Friday service will be held at St. Philip’s beginning at 6 p.m.
St. Philip’s and First Congo will hold a joint sunrise service on the Wiscasset pier at 6 a.m. on Easter, April 12. The 10 a.m. Easter service at First Congo will be followed by a brunch in fellowship hall. Church school on Easter will be followed by an Easter egg hunt.
