Fourth storm slams Midcoast region
Three storms have hit the region in the space of one week (Jan. 24, 27 and 30).
As a result, over three feet of snow has accumulated, and many Midcoast residents are thoroughly sick of the white stuff.
On Feb. 2, a fourth storm blasted the region with total accumulation expected to reach up to 11 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Gray.
The snow started falling around 7 a.m. on Monday.
The snow is extremely light and fluffy, which means although it does not stick to power lines as much of the previous snow has, it it easily blown around by the wind, causing visibility issues.
With a northeast wind holding steady at 20 mph (gusts around 30), nearly total whiteout conditions on the roads have been the result.
Many local businesses have closed due to the storm, and people are being advised to stay off the roads.
High temperatures will reach around 10 F during the day and 5 F during the night, with wind chill values as low as -10 during the day and -15 during the night, with wind speeds holding steady.
An additional 2 to 4 inches is expected to fall during the night.
