Gingerbread house building class Nov. 19
In preparation for the 19th annual Gingerbread Spectacular, the Boothbay Harbor Opera House is offering a free class in the fine art of designing and building gingerbread houses. The class is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. in the main performance hall at the Opera House.
December’s Gingerbread Spectacular will feature dozens of gingerbread creations – everything from delicious looking tiny cottages to castles, designed and built by seasoned bakers and novice gingerbread carpenters. From young builders working in the kitchen with a parent, to retirees settling in for a week to create the perfect entry, the Gingerbread Spectacular brings out all ages and all levels of talent. The Spectacular exhibit of gingerbread houses will be open for public viewing Dec. 12-14 at the historic Opera House. Prizes will be awarded for Most Spectacular, as well as other categories.
Individuals interested in learning more about what it takes to mix up an award-winning structure, or just looking for few pointers on icing recipes or trade secrets are encouraged to sign up for the one hour class. The Opera House’s set designer and holiday decorator, Kevin Kiley, will lead the class. There is no charge, but all participants must register in advance by calling the box office at 207-633-5159. Children are welcome, but anyone under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Those interested in creating a gingerbread structure for this year’s Spectacular are encouraged to contact the Opera House to sign up and learn more about the rules for this year’s Gingerbread Spectacular by calling 207-633-6855.
