Health insurance enrollment help available for lobstermen
Are you a lobsterman or a relative of a lobsterman? Are you interested in signing up for an Affordable Care Act health insurance plan but are put off by the application process? Then the Maine Lobstermen’s Association is available to help.
The enrollment period to sign up for a health insurance policy under the Affordable Care Act will end on Feb. 15. Those who do not sign up by that time may have to pay a penalty when they file their federal income taxes the following year.
To help Maine lobstermen get enrolled, the Maine Lobstermen’s Association (MLA) is holding a series of all-day sessions along the coast where lobstermen or their family members can work one-on-one with a trained health insurance Navigator to get themselves enrolled. MLA Navigator April Gilmore McNutt can explain the health insurance options available in the state and the subsidies that are available to individuals and families.
Appointments are required to work with the MLA Navigator at any of the sessions.
Appointments can be made by calling the MLA office at 967-4555. Maine’s oldest fishermen’s association, founded in 1954, the MLA is committed to ensuring that Maine lobstermen have the information they need to make an informed decision when it comes to health insurance enrollment.
