Howard T. Wills
Howard T. Wills, better known as “Howie,” leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts and lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
After a brief illness, he peacefully departed this world on Jan. 2, 2026 at the age of 99, with his daughter by his side.
Born and raised in Beverly, Massachusetts, Howie met his soulmate, Lois Peterson, on a blind date. Shortly thereafter he proudly served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Army Division. Upon returning from active duty, his parachute was transformed into a silk wedding gown, symbolizing the commitment he shared with Lois as they began their life together.
In their life of love, they created a family filled with joy, welcoming “two kids and a dog” along with an array of other animals, including goats, pheasants, and chickens, complemented by a flourishing vegetable garden.
Howie passionately included his family in his interests, indulging in fishing, skiing and hunting, belonging to the Ipswich Rod and Gun Club. His devotion extended to his widowed father, with countless weekends spent traveling to Maine, with family in tow, to enjoy and lend support to his dad’s lakeside cottage on Webb Lake.
A life rich with quiet adventures, Howie’s experiences ranged from exploring the woods and waterways to embarking on memorable travels across Canada and the northern states. As a lobsterman “on the side” in both Massachusetts and Maine for over 50 years, he continued his labor of love into his 99th year.
In his early career, Howie worked on a large vegetable farm and later at a dairy farm in Maine. His journey began as a machinist in a small shop in Rowley, Massachusetts, before he advanced to a position at Polaroid in Cambridge. He ultimately co-founded Naugler Engineering, from which he retired to enjoy life in Maine and the warmth of a second home in Florida.
Howie was predeceased by Lois in the spring of 2016 after 67 years of unwavering companionship. He leaves behind two children, Bradford Wills and Holly LaPointe, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry forward his legacy.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home for his cremation in Marco Island, Florida, with plans to return his ashes to Maine. A private ceremony will be held later this year, honoring his life with his children.
In lieu of flowers, for those wishing to honor Howie’s memory are invited to make a donation to the Fishermen’s Memorial Fund in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
