July ‘Summer Series’ programs at Popham Beach Library
Historic photographs of the Popham Beach area by WH Ballard will be featured at the Popham Beach Library on Thursday, July 23at 7 p.m. Rob Michael, Ballard’s grandson and archivist for Ballard’s photos. Michael will share the collectionof pictures which were often featured on postcards from the 1930s through the 1960s.
The work of Maine Maritime Academy Port Engineer Pete Jorgensen will be explained on Thursday,July 30 at 7 p.m. Jorgensen’s role is shoreside support and oversight of the maintenance, repair and operational readiness of the NSMV State of Mainevessel and crew. He ensures the ship is safe, compliant and efficient with all Coast Guard regulations. Jorgensen graduated from Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) with his marine engineering degree in 1999. He went on to sail steam and motor vessels primarily in the Pacific. After retirement he worked with the crew at MMA in the role of watch officer overseeing the cadettes on their summer sea term on the TD State of Maine.
The July and August “Summer Series” is offered by the PBIA, Popham Beach Improvement Association, in conjunction with the library. The Popham BeachLibrary is at 965 Popham Road and welcomes all residents, seasonal residents and visitors to stop by during regular hours to borrow new books and DVDs and have a cup of coffee. The library is open on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during July and August, and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in September. Every Saturday through Sept. 27 the library is open from 10 to 1. Look for the “OPEN” flag. Ample parking is available behind the library and chapel.
