"Quiet Beauty ~ A Sense of Place" - The exquisitely serene and stunning images of Rockland printmaker Kathleen Buchanan will grace the walls of Kerr+Jones Gallery in East Boothbay during the month of August. The public is invited to a reception in her honor on Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 5 to 7 pm.

Buchanan’s themes evoke a sense of place and memory. Among her titles are "Island Summer," "Quiet Atlantic" and "Granite Cove."  Living on the coast of Maine, she has access to a dynamic landscape that shifts endlessly through tides, storm cycles and seasons. 

In her words~ “I am inspired by the beauty of this corner of the world. My goal is to create images to connect people to the natural world and to remind the viewer that we exist within community.  In our contemporary culture, we are easily separated from the rhythms and resources that nurture us. It is my hope that my work will help to ground the viewer in their sense of place and belonging.” 

From shore to sea, salt marsh to forest, her collagraph prints are quietly breathtaking. Islands, puffins, oystercatchers, foxes and owls are all represented in their natural environments. If you live in Maine or are just passing through, Kathleen’s images exist as a testament to the extraordinary beauty of our state…and beyond. Her limited edition works are beautifully matted and framed under glass and can be packed for shipping. 

Kathleen Buchanan has bachelor and master of science degrees from Tufts University and the University of Alaska. She completed a year-long independent study in printmaking at Heartwood College of Art in Kennebunk, Maine. Her work has been featured in Maine Home & Design, Yankee Magazine and Maine the Way as well as printmaking textbooks and is in the public collections of The Boston Atheneum and Wendell Gilley Museum.
