Knickerbocker Group strengthens construction leadership with new director and field operations practice leader
Design-build firm Knickerbocker Group has named Herb Beherrell as director of construction and promoted Derek Libby to field operations practice leader. Together, these leadership changes strengthen the firm’s Construction and Property Care teams and bring greater focus and support to the people responsible for planning and delivering Knickerbocker Group projects.
As director of donstruction, Beherrell will provide overall leadership for Construction and Property Care, working across design, project management, pre-construction, construction, field operations, and property care to strengthen connections throughout the firm’s integrated design-build practice. He will also focus on developing team members and future leaders, strengthening consistency, and continuing to elevate how Knickerbocker Group plans and delivers its work.
“Herb brings tremendous depth of construction experience, but what stands out to me is his leadership,” said Danielle Betts, president of Knickerbocker Group. “He is an exceptional communicator and collaborator, with positive energy, a deep commitment to the craft, and a genuine passion for developing people. His long-time connection to Maine and commitment to our region are important to us as well.”
Beherrell joins Knickerbocker Group after nearly three decades with Turner Construction Company, where he served as a senior construction superintendent overseeing complex, multi-phase, high-value projects. His experience spans healthcare, public spaces, and high-end residential construction, along with extensive experience leading teams and building strong relationships with clients, employees, and subcontractors.
Knickerbocker Group has also promoted Derek Libby to field operations practice leader, formalizing the field leadership role he has already been providing.
As practice leader, Libby will focus on supporting and developing the firm’s site managers, strengthening consistency in field practices, recruiting and training, and building leadership capacity across the team. His role also strengthens the connection between project management and the teams responsible for delivering the firm’s work in the field.
“Our site managers are central to both how we deliver our projects and the experience our clients have throughout construction,” said Betts. “Derek understands the realities of the work in the field and has earned the trust and respect of our teams. This role gives him the opportunity to focus more intentionally on developing our people, strengthening consistency across projects, and making sure our site managers have the leadership, support, and resources they need to be successful.”
These roles strengthen and complement the experienced leaders already guiding Knickerbocker Group’s construction work, including Jessica Rodenhizer, who leads Project Management practices, Kristy Battles, who leads Property Care, and seasoned construction leaders responsible for pre-construction and the delivery of key projects. Together, they bring complementary strengths and clearer areas of focus around the firm’s people, processes, and clients—giving those responsible for delivering exceptional projects the focus, support, and resources they need to do their best work.
