Knox County to send all inmates to Two Bridges Regional Jail
Knox County commissioners reached an agreement in December to send all their prisoners to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. Under the one-year deal, Lincoln and Sagadahoc Multicounty Regional Jail Authority will house Knox inmates for a period of one year. Knox County will send monthly payments of $293,450, totaling $3,521,400.
The agreement may be extended or terminated with a 120-day written notice. Col. James Bailey is the chief administrator at Two Bridges Regional Jail. He believes the agreement serves the purposes of both TBRJA and Knox County. "I believe this arrangement will benefit the jail authority in several ways, both now, and in the future," he wrote. "It will strengthen our partnership, help stabilize the budget process, and enhance the services we are able to provide to the population we serve."
The agreement was signed earlier this month. The two parties are working out a transition plan prior to putting the agreement into action.
