Last weeks of 'Art to Table': Next up is 'Song of the Wild'
“Art to Table: Visual Sustenance,” an exhibit of artwork at Maine Art Gallery (MAG) celebrating the growing, harvesting, and enjoyment of food, will be on view for two more weeks, until June 14. The show was accompanied by a well-attended panel program on sustainable agriculture featuring Maine Farmland Trust, Veggies to Table and Morning Glory Natural Foods. Visitors remarked on the variety of work, from abstract to representational, from beautifully-rendered Holstein cows to imaginative assemblages relating to the theme.
The upcoming exhibition, “Song of the Wild: Honoring the Natural Beauty of Maine,” will be a highlight of the 2026 season at the gallery. The curated group show will feature 10 esteemed Maine artists representing various mediums: landscape painters Eric Hopkins, Jane Dahmen, Sarah Farragher and Matt Barter; fresco artist Barbara Sullivan; mixed media artist Lesia Sochor; photographer Liv Kristin Robinson; and abstract painters, Katherine Shagas, Joy Vaughan and Emily Sabino. The show will open June 18 with an opening reception on June 20.
Artwork in the exhibit includes iconic Maine landscapes, flora and fauna, and artistic interpretations of the Maine wilderness as a metaphor. Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, the exhibition sponsor, is partnering with the group to provide an educational component. The trust’s Community Science Director, Sarah Gladu, will present an environmental talk, “The Impact of Air,” on July 11. A panel discussion “Nature as Muse” is also planned for July 16. Coastal Rivers is a non-profit, member-supported, nationally accredited land trust caring for the lands, waters, and communities of the Damariscotta region by conserving special places, protecting water quality, creating trails and public access, and deepening connections to nature through education programs.
