Bruce Kinsey was born on July 11, 1944 to Lloyd and Happy Munro Kinsey in Edmonds, Washington, the second of four children. 

The family later settled in Utica, New York, where his mother had family roots. He attended New Hartford High School and Hartwick College. After service in the Navy, he completed college at Utica College. He loved sports cars and he and his best high school friends, Steve Gardner and John Jacobs, spent time at the Watkins Glen racetrack watching and dreaming.

As a child he spent time visiting his grandfather in East Boothbay. Throughout his family’s moves, Maine was always a place Bruce knew he wanted to make his home someday. In 1971, he moved to Southport, making his dream a reality. He married Maureen Hillis in 1973 and together they built their house in the ensuing years. Bruce learned the machinist trade working for his friend Scott Kennedy and went on to start Sheepscot Machine Works in 1978, retiring in 2005.

Bruce was an adventurer and shared that love of travel with his family over the years. He and Maureen cruised downeast with the girls each summer on their boat Kittiwake. Later, those ocean travels moved to land and he drove the family across country, visiting 10 National Parks and seeing family and friends along the way. His own family took this same trip decades earlier and it made such an impression on him that he wanted to share this experience with his own family. It was later in life that Bruce and Maureen set sail to travel in Memory, their Whitby 42 over seven winters, taking them as far south as Panama and Trinidad, with stops in the San Blas Islands, Cuba and many remote places. Many friends and family joined them over the years, helping to create wonderful memories.

Bruce was well cared for by his loving wife and dear friend Susan Endicott until the last 13 months, where he made his final home at the Gregory Wing at the St. Andrews Village. He was treated with the utmost compassion and care and loved everyone there. Smiles passed back and forth between Bruce and everyone daily.

Bruce passed away on Sept. 10, 2026 leaving behind his wife of 53 years, Maureen Kinsey. He was predeceased by his daughter Eliza Kinsey, parents, and brother Munro Kinsey, whom we imagine were there to greet him with big hugs and smiles. He is also survived by his daughter Gretchen Kinsey and grandson Kinsey Sullivan of Yarmouth, Maine, his sister Carol Kinsey of Stockton Springs, Maine, his sister Karen Roberts (Phil) of Bayville, Maine, his niece, Rachel Roberts of Naples, Florida, his nephew David Roberts of Charleston, South Carolina.
