According to NPR, “French Exit” is a mother-son caper, a sparkling dark comedy that channels both Noël Coward's wit and Wes Anderson's loopy sensibility. This comedic tragedy is more comedy than tragedy. As we enter into May and the last grasp of winter – it is snowing as I type this – “French Exit” feels like it is just what the doctor ordered.

“The Courier” - (PG-13; 1 hour, 51 minutes) - A true-life spy thriller, the story of an unassuming British businessman Greville Wynne (Benedict Cumberbatch) recruited into one of the greatest international conflicts in history. At the behest of the UK’s MI-6 and a CIA operative (Rachel Brosnahan), he forms a covert, dangerous partnership with Soviet officer Oleg Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) in an effort to provide crucial intelligence needed to prevent a nuclear confrontation and defuse the Cuban Missile Crisis. Final screenings Thursday, April 29 at 2 and 7 p.m.

“French Exit” - (R; 1 hour, 50 minutes) - “My plan was to die before the money ran out,” says 60-year-old penniless Manhattan socialite Frances Price (Michelle Pfeiffer, Golden Globe nominee), but things did not quite go as planned. Her husband Franklin has been dead for 12 years and with his vast inheritance gone, she cashes in the last of her possessions and resolves to live out her twilight days anonymously in a borrowed apartment in Paris, accompanied by her directionless son Malcolm (Lucas Hedges) and a cat named Small Frank – who may or may not embody the spirit of Frances’s dead husband (Tracy Letts). Screenplay written by Patrick DeWitt and based on his darkly comic novel. Playing at 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, April 30; Saturday, May 1; Wednesday, May 5, and Thursday, May 6; also screening Sunday, May 2 at 2 p.m.

Coming Soon – Tickets on sale now: “The Truffle Hunters” - May 7; “Street Gang: How We Got to Sesame Street” - May 14; “Together Together” - May 21; and “Limbo” - May 28.
