Malcolm J. “Mac” Morris, 96, formerly of Livermore Falls, passed away peacefully, on the porch swing overlooking the ocean, on Sunday, Aug. 9 at his residence in Boothbay Harbor. 

He was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Leeds, the son of George and Irma (Alden) Morris. He started his education in Leeds at the V.A. Dean School and was a 1947 graduate of Leavitt Institute in Turner.

During his employment at International Paper, he was offered to attend classes through University of Maine where he studied chemical engineering and advanced math and received a Pulp and Paper Management Certificate.

He married Elvira Morse on Dec. 30, 1950, and they had three children, Marsha, Merritt and Mavis. He later married Nancy Cox on Sept. 24, 1975. They enjoyed close to 50 years together before her passing on June 22, 2025.

Mac worked as a supervisor in the Wood Room, Pulp Mill and Recaust departments for International Paper Company in Jay for 37 and a half years. Mac was a very gifted carpenter and built several houses; he also renovated and resold properties as well. Mac enjoyed working on cars and would repair and resell them.

He was a member of the International Paper Company Quarter Century Club and Supervisors Club, a former member of the United Methodist Church in Livermore Falls, a 50-plus-year member of the Asylum Lodge Mason #133 in Leeds, and a member of the Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls Hunting Club. One year he received the award for the biggest doe. He also belonged to the Sea Tow, Boating/Fishing Club, at the Country Club Estates in Venice, Florida.

Mac enjoyed boating, fishing, ice fishing, gardening, and wintering in Florida. He sailed the Maine coast extensively as well as much of the Florida coastline and the Florida Keys. He also went as a crew member on a privately owned sailboat to Havana, Cuba.

He is survived by his children, Marsha James and husband Charles of Solon, Merritt Morris and wife Crystal of Turner, Mavis Dubord and husband Robert of Thomaston, and Carrie Barnes of Jay, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his lifelong friend Tommy Randall.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service.

Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 100 Fayette Road, Livermore Falls.
