Martin F. Achilles
Martin Franklin Achilles, age 89, passed away peacefully on Aug. 27, 2026 at his home in The Highlands in Topsham Maine.
Martin and his wife Martha were longtime residents of Edgecomb Maine, where they built the home they loved in 1987, and eventually retired to in 1994.
Martin was born May 17, 1937 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Anna Beth Soltis Achilles and Martin A. Achilles. He attended George School, Penn State University, and was a lieutenant in the US Navy. He was a Navy pilot and served on the aircraft carrier, the USS Enterprise. After leaving the Navy in 1967, Martin joined Mohawk Airlines as a pilot. Mohawk merged with Allegany Airlines, and eventually became USAir. Martin and his wife Martha settled in Stony Creek, Connecticut to raise their family.
Martin enjoyed sailing, life on the water, skiing, woodworking and classical music. He loved life in Maine and a good lobster roll.
He was predeceased by his wife Martha Ackerman Achilles, and his daughter Lysbeth Andrew Achilles.
He is survived by his daughter Gretchen Fowler Achilles, and his five grandchildren Astrid Achilles Roe, Robert Soren Roe, Anna Beatrix Roe, Sky Achilles Reed, and Dylan Achilles Reed.
