Midcoast Conservancy celebrates its 10th anniversary with events, annual meeting in July
Midcoast Conservancy is excited to be celebrating its 10th anniversary, having been established in 2016 with the merger of four legacy organizations.
Over the past decade, the conservation community throughout the midcoast region has come together to protect more than 16,000 acres, care for miles of trails, and safeguard the rivers, lakes, and habitats that make this region special. The organization’s work represents the energy, passion, and dedication that many community members have exuded for conservation in this area and a 3-day weekend celebration is planned for July 24-26, to mark the milestone.
On Friday, July 24, 5-8 p.m., Midcoast Conservancy will host “A Decade in the Making: 10th Anniversary Party” at Hidden Valley in Jefferson, with a ticketed event featuring guest speaker Keith Carson and live music by local band Rockville. This event is being catered by Maine Pine Catering - a division of Spectrum Generations - where proceeds are reinvested in their nonprofit’s mission to support the health, wellness, and community engagement of older and disabled adults including Meals on Wheels throughout the Midcoast.
On Saturday, July 25, noon-2 p.m., the organization will host “Rooted Together: Annual Meeting and Member and Volunteer Appreciation” for attendees to hear about the year in review, and exciting work that is on the horizon. This event will include guest speaker Paul Christman, a marine scientist III with the Maine Department of Marine Resources who has spent the past 27 years helping lead Atlantic salmon recovery efforts in Maine, including innovative work on the Sheepscot River. Board and staff leadership will also preside over the Annual Meeting. A potluck lunch will be served and following the program, guests are encouraged to stay and explore all that Hidden Valley has to offer.
On Sunday, July 26, the organization is hosting multiple free events encouraging people to connect with nature. Walks featuring old growth forests in the Sheepscot Headwaters and diverse ecological communities at Burkett Mills Preserve are scheduled, as well as a beginner Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga for Beginners, and an all ages Theatre in the Trees will be held at Hidden Valley.
