Molnlycke’s Wiscasset expanson ‘right on track’
From the outside, the addition to Molnlycke’s Wiscasset plant looks nearly done. The interior work is now the focus, from walls to plumbing, Molnlycke’s manager for the project Fred Libby said Oct. 31.
“The entire shell is up and the roof is on,” Libby said. “It’s all enclosed, so things are on schedule. We’re right on track and everything seems to be moving along very well.”
Plans still call for the contractor to turn the 32,000-square foot addition over to the company in January, as discussed when company and town officials and others broke ground on the expansion in May.
The company has already made some early hires for the jobs that the added space will yield, Libby said.
The Sweden-based wound care product maker, which also has a Brunswick plant, is committed to making Maine the center of its U.S. manufacturing, a company official has said. The add-on to the Wiscasset plant on Twin Rivers Drive has been projected to increase the plant’s workforce of about 70, by another 10 to 30 employees.
In January, Wiscasset voters passed a tax incentive deal to aid the expansion and help pay off the town’s debts for infrastructure work aimed at attracting industry.
