November offers a cornucopia of classes at Boothbay-Wiscasset Regional Adult Education
Whether it’s scones, landscape painting, health and safety, there’s something to kindle inspiration at Boothbay-Wiscasset Regional Adult Education in November.
Debra Arter offers a popular class in both Boothbay Harbor and Wiscasset. Autumn Scones will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Boothbay Region Elementary School. In this three-hour class, participants will make Harvest Pumpkin, Double Ginger, Savoy Hotel Classic, Maple Bacon, and Cranberry Orange scones. All ingredients are provided and no experience is necessary. Bring containers to take home samples.
Arter will teach 13 Types of Yeast Rolls, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Wiscasset Middle High School. In this one-night class, participants learn how to mix, knead, proof, and shape yeast dough into both savory and sweet treats, including cloverleaf rolls, butter crescents, cinnamon swirls, tea rings, caramel pecan rolls and whole-wheat buns, as well as an economical savory braid that comes together quickly. Various yeast bread tricks will be shared and discussed. Everyone will go home with a basket of yummy warm treats, as well as dough to bake at home.
Jeff Mao returns to Boothbay Harbor with The Art of Har Gow: From Scratch Crystal Shrimp Dumplings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18. Master one of dim sum's most popular items by making Har Gow (crystal shrimp dumplings) completely from scratch, including the flavorful shrimp filling and the special “crystal” dough. Participants will learn essential techniques like handling the unique wheat starch dough, rolling delicate wrappers, executing classic pleats, and achieving perfect steaming. ingredients and equipment provided.
Arts and crafts classes in Wiscasset include Landscape Paint Night with Heather Grotton-Emerson from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at Wiscasset Middle High School. Later that week, join Lorna Plourde for a Handmade Cardmaking session from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12.
