One night only: LA improv comedians come to the Lincoln Theater

Sat, 10/15/2022 - 8:30am

Story Location:
2 Theater Street
Damariscotta, ME 04543
United States

For one night only, downtown Damariscotta will be filled with laughter as Lincoln Theater welcomes members of the cast and crew of the independent film project “McCurdy Point” to the stage. With deep improv and ensemble theatre training at their core, the cast and crew will be bringing an entirely improvised comedy show to be performed live on the Lincoln Theater stage, for one night only, Sunday, Oct. 23 at 5 p.m. With some of the funniest talent from Los Angeles, Boston, and New York City, this night of comedy will brighten your weekend with a show that is so funny, it’s scary!

The “McCurdy Point” cast, joining us live on the Lincoln Theater stage, includes Jeremy Brothers, a writer and director who has worked as the artistic director at Improv Asylum and a host for The Moth. Ryan Gaul, originally from Damariscotta, is a member of the Main Company of The Groundlings. Gaul, has been seen on such TV shows and films as “The Last OG,” “Superstore,” and “Between Two Ferns.” Kiel Kennedy is an Emmy-nominated writer and a main company member of The Groundlings;  and Christian Roberts is an ensemble member of the Off-Broadway hit “Drunk Shakespeare,” as well as an alum of Improv Asylum NYC.

An independent horror film, “McCurdy Point” is currently shooting right here in Lincoln County. The entire cast and crew are a group of working professionals - actors, writers, and directors - who have continually found themselves auditioning, submitting scripts, or reels for gigs, and who wanted to create something without having to ask for permission. They each have had their own individual successes and are now banding together to create something bigger and better, believing that collaboration is key. Lovers of comedy, they are also lovers of horror and the traditional ghost story. Using the horror genre, through “McCurdy Point” they are deconstructing and playing with the traditional notions of masculinity over the course of a "guy's weekend" trip to a cabin in Maine.

With members from The Groundlings in Los Angeles and alums of Improv Asylum from Boston and New York City, the completely improvised comedy show is guaranteed to be a great time, and for a great cause with 50% of all ticket sales going directly to funding the McCurdy Point film project.
