The Waldo announces new theatre education programs for youth and adults consisting of 10-week after school and early evening classes beginning in October. Each of the four fall courses being offered is designed for a specific age group by grade: 1-3, 4-6, 7-12; and adults age 18 and up.

Designed by The Waldo’s new Education Manager Mia Branco, the classes are an invitation for participants to bring their voice and creativity to the stage, no matter their age or experience with theatre.

“At The Waldo, we are all about building community through the joy, connection, and expression that performing arts embody,” said Branco. “These classes bring us together to learn, create, and, most importantly, have some fun together,” Branco said.

Branco will teach two of the youth courses, while Teralyn Reiter of Storytree Theatre will lead the high school student and adult courses. Reiter made a splash in the local theatre scene when her play about Frances Perkins, “The Only Woman in the Room,”  premiered at the Lincoln Theatre this summer. All classes will be conducted at the theatre, 916 Main Street, in Waldoboro Village.

“My hope is that anyone who has ever been curious about theatre will come join us as we learn, explore and play together,” said Reiter. “Everyone is welcome!”

Additional information about the classes, including dates, registration, and scholarship information, can be found on The Waldo’s website: waldotheatre.org.

Through programs like after-school activities, a signature youth arts program, summer workshops and other events, The Waldo seeks to enrich and enhance the region’s cultural offerings for our residents, particularly our youth, and enhance the quality of life for all. Having reopened in 2021 after decades of closure, this vibrant, beautifully restored 1936 theatre serves once more as a local cultural hub offering theater, music, film and arts education to our Midcoast community.
