Remembrance Tree returns for 10th anniversary
Fri, 12/05/2014 - 11:30am
This Remembrance Tree stands on the lawn of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library to honor the lives of Chellie Calloway and Sally Murray.
Ten years ago, on Aug. 21, Calloway, a teacher at Cony High School and former resident of Boothbay Harbor, and her mother-in-law, Murray of West Boothbay Harbor, were shot and killed at Murray’s home by Murray’s son.
A remembrance tree, like the one pictured above, was first erected in December of 2004 by the former Boothbay Region Domestic Abuse Prevention Council (DAPC).
The sign to the left, the council’s mission statement, has become the region’s mission — to live free from abuse and violence.
