Mon, 04/03/2017 - 11:15am

Robert L. Perkins, 88, died March 30, 2017 at St. Andrews Village surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Marjorie Perkins who died in 2003.

Robert was born on June 28, 1928 in Boothbay Harbor and was the son of the late Merrill L. and Aura (Burnham) Perkins. He was a lifelong resident of Boothbay Harbor and a graduate of Boothbay Harbor High School in the class of 1946. He enlisted in the United States Navy after World War II and was among the first sailors who sailed on the USS Midway for its maiden voyage.

Robert worked in many area shipyards, Sample's, Hodgdon Brothers, Rice Boatyard, and for many years with Edward Reed as a finish carpenter working on many area homes and cottages. He then worked for Bath Iron Works until he retired in 1990. After retirement he then spent many hours in his workshop building beautiful furniture for his family and friends.

He was a member of Bayview Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and a former member of the Boothbay Fish & Game Club. He was an avid hunter of deer and rabbit.

He is survived by daughters, Cyndie Brown and husband Sereno of Trevett and Susan Begin and husband Raymond of Auburn; son, Russell Perkins and wife Andrea of Wiscasset; grandchildren, Sereno Robert Brown and wife Abigail of Oakland, California, Mathew Brown of Portland, Gregory Begin and wife Cassandra of Minot, Jeffrey Begin of Auburn, Christopher Perkins and Jesse Perkins of Wiscasset; great-grandchildren, Madeleine and Emma Brown of Oakland, California, and Raelyn Begin of Minot.

For those that knew “Perk” he was a person of integrity and kindness. However, he loved to tease and joke, and had a dry sense of humor. He was a very capable provider for his family, and will be greatly missed.
