Ronald (Ron) Edward Johnson, 76 years old, passed away peacefully on Aug. 28, 2026 at Cape Memory Care Home in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

He was the son of Edward and May (Elwell) Johnson, born Jan. 23, 1950 in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Ron was a 1968 graduate of Gloucester High School. He grew up in West Gloucester and lived there until he was in his late 20s. To say he and his West Gloucester friends cherished their terrain is an understatement! He met his wife Gael in 1970 and they were married in 1971. They and their children, Gaely and Ronnie, moved to Dixmont, Maine in 1979.

From the time he was a teenager and throughout his life, Ron had a great interest in cars, especially Chevrolets. At the age of 15, he owned a ’55 Chevy and on his own, installed a powerful V8 engine. He became an excellent car mechanic throughout his working years. In addition, he converted part of his Dixmont barn into a hardware store. After living in Dixmont for about 25 years with his family, he and Gael lived in several other towns in Maine. He became an artist too, taking after his father. He was a member of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation Gallery, where he painted weekly with a group of artists and his wonderful paintings were shown and sold.

Ron was cheerful and had the best smile and chuckle. He was immediately liked by all who met him and made many friends over the years, including at the Cape Memory Care Home in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. The great staff at Cape Memory Care enjoyed taking care of him and engaging in conversation with him. 

Ron was predeceased by his wife Gael, who died exactly 10 years before Ron on Aug. 28, 2016, and their son Ronnie, and his sister Ruthanne (Rufus) Collinson.

He is survived by his daughter Gaely Johnson and granddaughter Sarah Johnson; sister Linda Tucker, brother-in-law Troy Tucker; and nephew Tyler Tucker. He is also survived by his nephew Sam Collinson and nieces Suzanna and Bradshaw Collinson.

A private gathering will be held at Dixmont Corner Cemetery in Maine, where his wife Gael and son Ronald Jr. are buried.
