Sally Hellens
Sally Anne Fletcher Hellens, 90, died May 28, 2014. She was a resident of St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Robert Linton Hellens.
She was born in Worcester, Mass., on December 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Raymond Bassett Fletcher and Anne Harlow Fletcher Ross.
During her childhood she lived in Shrewsbury, Mass., and graduated from Sargent College of Boston University with a bachelor’s degree and certification as a physical therapist. She was employed at Worcester State Hospital, and later in life at hospitals in New York and Connecticut. She also volunteered at the McLean Home in Simsbury, Conn., the Hartford Hospital, and Meals on Wheels. She served on the board of directors of the Farmington Valley Visiting Nurse Association.
She is survived by three daughters and three sons-in-law, Nancy and James Gregory of Sudbury, Mass., Diane Hellens and Neel Teague of McLean, Va., and Susan and Andrew Griffith of Simsbury, Conn.; six granddaughters, Jennifer (husband Matt DeBold) and Hillary Gregory, Elizabeth (husband Eric Klem) and Rebecca Teague, and Claire and Meghan Griffith; and a great-grandson, Ethan DeBold. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Benson of Boylston, Mass., and a brother, Thomas Ross of Daytona Beach, Fla.
She was predeceased by a sister, Jean Fletcher Yates, and a brother Edward Fletcher.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Heart-to-Heart Health Services at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.
