SVRSU budget gets 69% voter approval

    Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit Superintendent of Schools Howie Tuttle said voters July 14 passed the $24 million, 2020-21 school budget, 1,858-825.

    "The RSU 12 Board of Directors thanks RSU 12 citizens for supporting the school budget during this challenging time. We look forward to restarting in-person education in the fall,” Tuttle wrote in an email Wednesday evening, July 15 to Wiscasset Newspaper. 

    Asked about the in-person education, Tuttle explained via text: “No details yet. We will need to wait for direction from the (education) commissioner. But, we are planning for a safe return.”

    According to information the district has provided, the budget is up 4.2% this year, with Westport Island’s tab projected to rise 11.8%, to $851,936; Alna’s, 2.7%, to $1,018,284; Chelsea’s, 1.5%, to $2,599,065; Palermo’s, 1.4%, to $1,945,651; Somerville’s, 1.9%, to $668,095; Whitefield’s, 2.8%, to $2,389,223; and Windsor’s, 4.8%, to $3,354,081.

    Tuttle said Westport Island supported the budget offer 229-52; Alna, 229-41; Whitefield, 429-146; Chelsea, 339-188; Palermo, 256-101; Somerville, 99-66; and Windsor, 277-231.
