Talk on Quebec Expedition Aug. 2 in Westport Island

Sunday, Aug. 2, at 3 p.m. in Westport Island Town Hall, renowned historic shipwright Rob Stevens will tell about an epic Maine event in the American Revolution – The Quebec Expedition. He will describe how in 1775, Benedict Arnold led over 1,000 American soldiers on a grueling march up the nearby Kennebec River and through the Maine forest to attack Quebec City. It was a harrowing journey with a significant outcome.
Stevens is from Woolwich and a member of the Arnold Expedition Historical Society. In 2017, he retraced Arnold’s historic trek in a boat, and he's built four replicas of Arnold’s batteaus. Stevens has been the lead shipwright building the popular replica in Bath of the first boat built in the colonies in 1607, the Virginia. He also built a replica of a Viking ship which they used to come to the New World over a thousand years ago.
