Tennis tournament helps with homelessness
On Saturday, Feb. 7, the Stepping Stone Fundraising tennis tournament, "Serving to Prevent Homelessness," took place at the CLC Y in Damariscotta.
Eighteen players participated in the round robin charity event. Sponsors contributed $500 to Stepping Stone Housing, Inc. those sponsors included Water of Life Lutheran Church, Thrivent Financial, The Standard of Newcastle, Tom and Sally Farrell, Bruce and Karen Bachelder, the Neighoff family, and an anonymous organization.
The Maine Tennis Association and Hannaford Supermarket of Damariscotta, as well as the tennis players, and others also made donations. An anonymous individual is matching all donations for a grand total of $8,200.
Each tennis participant, who had four different partners throughout the event, reported their individual score after playing each of four rounds and the four players with the highest scores played a final set.
The winners were Claudia Leighton from the Boothbay Y, Christian Forsyth from MRC tennis club, and the runners-up, both from CLC Y, were Chris Sewall and Brian Mann. Tournament committee members are Liliana Thelander and Lori Bailey.
