Twin Villages Arbor Day celebration to offer free trees and family activities
Coastal Rivers Conservation Trust, in partnership with the towns of Damariscotta and Newcastle, will host the annual Twin Villages Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, May 16, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Round Top Farm in Damariscotta.
This family-friendly community event honors Arbor Day with opportunities to celebrate local forestry and connect with neighbors. A central feature of the morning is the free tree giveaway, where households may receive up to two trees to plant at home while supplies last. The available species include a variety of native trees and shrubs such as balsam fir, red maple, serviceberry, paper birch, ironwood, pagoda dogwood, flowering dogwood, winterberry, tamarack, black gum, ninebark, spruce, American plum, white oak, and swamp white oak.
The trees are provided in one-gallon pots and typically range from 12 inches to 4 feet in height. To ensure a tree is available, community members are encouraged to register in advance through the Coastal Rivers website at coastalrivers.org/events. Reserved trees must be picked up at Round Top Farm during the event hours; any trees remaining after 12:00 p.m. will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to the giveaway, the celebration will feature planting tutorials, a tree climbing demonstration by an arborist, native plants for sale, and tabling with partner organizations. Skidompha Library will also host a special community story hour beginning at 10:30 a.m.
This project is funded in part through a grant awarded by the Maine Forest Service and the USDA Forest Service. Round Top Farm is located at 12 Round Top Lane in Damariscotta.
