"Verity" - (R; 1 hour, 57 minutes) - Based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, "Verity" is a seductive psychological thriller where nothing—and no one—is quite what it seems. Struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) is hired by Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) to complete the bestselling book series of his wife, renowned author Verity Crawford (Anne Hathaway), who is unable to write following a devastating accident. Lowen moves into the Crawfords’ remote estate to sort through Verity’s unfinished work, but instead discovers what appears to be a deeply disturbing autobiographical manuscript filled with shocking confessions and unsettling secrets. As Lowen becomes increasingly drawn to Jeremy and consumed by what she has uncovered, the lines between truth and fiction, attraction and manipulation, and ambition and obsession begin to blur—with dangerous consequences. Plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, Saturday, Oct. 24 and Thursday, Oct. 29. Playing at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 28 (OCAP).
“Still, it’s wickedly playful, and it gives its central performers plenty of chances to show off their technique and build their movie-star personas.” – Matt Zoller Seitz, RogerEbert.com
