Eleanor Yesmentes
Eleanor Yesmentes, formerly of East Boothbay died peacefully at her home in Milford, MA on October 5th just days away from her 89th birthday.
Eleanor was beautiful inside and out. She was funny, sweet and had an incredible sense of humor. She loved people and was a natural performer. Piano was her passion and she'd play classical music from memory for all who wanted to listen as well as for the church.
Over the years she was a Welcome Wagon hostess, animal control officer and choir director but being a school bus driver brought her the most joy.
With a great sense of adventure, Eleanor loved to travel both near and far and was often seen around town in her convertible corvette with her big poodle in the passenger seat, usually on their way for an ice cream. Her motto was, "Life is short, eat dessert first!"
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband Pete and survived by her son Peter of Winchendon, Massachusetts, a daughter Katie Daley and her husband Dan of Mendon, Massachusetts and was predeceased by her youngest child, Sarah Plummer, wife of Todd Plummer of Boothbay. Eleanor is also survived by six grandsons, Evan and Peter Yesmentes, Alden and Austin Daley and Troy and Jay Plummer.
While in East Boothbay Eleanor was active in the Boothbay Shores Association, the Down East Yacht Club and St. Columba's Church.
As her struggles with dementia became overwhelming for her, she moved closer to her daughter where she became a much loved member of the community. She remained playful, funny and sweet right up until the end. She lived an amazing life filled with love, laughter and music. We should all be so lucky.
Eleanor loved the ocean with the sound of the foghorn and the pounding waves so while there will be no calling hours, there will be a private service aboard her grandson's boat on a day when the sun is shining and seas are calm.
