This week at the Harbor Theater
"A Talent For Murder" - (R - 1 hour, 46 minutes) - Academy Award winner Helen Mirren stars as legendary crime novelist Patricia Highsmith, the brilliant and enigmatic author of "The Talented Mr. Ripley," in this gripping psychological thriller from director Anton Corbijn (Control). Living in seclusion in Switzerland, Highsmith receives an unexpected visit from an ambitious young literary agent (Alden Ehrenreich) who has traveled from New York to convince her to write one final installment in her celebrated Tom Ripley series. But what begins as a seemingly straightforward business proposition soon evolves into a tense and increasingly sinister battle of wills, as hidden motives emerge and the line between persuasion and manipulation begins to blur. Fueled by sharp dialogue, mounting suspense, and a compelling clash between two formidable personalities, "A Talent for Murder" explores obsession, ambition, and the darker side of literary fame. For fans of Patricia Highsmith's psychological mysteries and the morally complex world of Tom Ripley, this atmospheric thriller promises an intriguing game of cat and mouse in which neither player may be quite what they seem. Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. (OCAP) and Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
“A Talent For Murder is darkly funny, freshly thrilling, and unrepentantly seductive.” – Kristy Puchko, Mashable
"Wicker" - (R; 1 hour, 45 minutes) - In a quiet seaside village where tradition rules and gossip travels fast, a fiercely independent fisherwoman (Oliva Colman) has had enough of being mocked and judged by her narrow-minded neighbors. Tired of being treated as an outcast and determined to find happiness on her own terms, she makes an extraordinary decision: commissioning a husband crafted entirely from wicker. But when her unconventional companion becomes the center of an unexpected romance, the village erupts in jealousy, outrage, and increasingly outrageous chaos. Blending dark comedy, romance, and a touch of the fantastical, "Wicker" is a wonderfully eccentric tale about love, loneliness, and the absurd lengths people will go to preserve the status quo. Both mischievous and surprisingly heartfelt, this offbeat story challenges expectations about relationships, belonging, and what it really means to find your perfect match. Playing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6; Saturday, November 7 and Thursday, Nov. 12; see it at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8 and Wednesday, Nov. 11 (OCAP).
“Colman’s touching performance wins viewers over immediately, making us root for her as she revels in her Wicker Husband’s love and then grapples with jealousy, distrust, and doubt seeded by a lifetime of communal abuse.” – Colleen Morrissey, Chicago Reader
