Jennifer Hudson won an Oscar for her stunning portrayal of Effie in the movie musical, “Dreamgirls.” Aretha Franklin hand-picked Hudson, to play her in “Respect.”
“The Green Knight “ - (R; 2 hours, 10 minutes) - An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend - The story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. Final screenings at 2 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15 and Thursday, Sept. 16.
“Respect” - (PG-13; 2 hours, 25 minutes) - Following the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career from a child singing in her father’s church’s choir to her international superstardom, “Respect” is the remarkable true story of the music icon’s journey to find her voice.
