LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Who’s on first?

    Dear Editor:

As a lifetime New York Yankee fan, I was excited to hear President Donald J. Trump announce at a press briefing that he would be throwing out the opening pitch at Yankee Stadium on Aug. 15. (This important announcement came one hour before Dr. Anthony Fauci was to throw the first pitch for the season-opening game in Washington D.C.)

Unfortunately, neither the Yankees’ organization nor the West Wing staff had this honorary event on their calendars.

When it became obvious that he hadn’t been invited, Trump quickly tweeted that he had to cancel his mound appearance because he was seriously focused on the federal response to the pandemic.

If our Commander-in-Chief can be caught childishly lying in such trivial circumstances — and so laughably trying to cover up these lies — what are we to expect of his secretive, high-level deals with the world’s most dangerous dictators?

Just a thought as we watch the late innings of the 2020 presidential campaign ...
