William B. Alley
William B. Alley, a beloved son, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on Dec. 24, 1937, in Damariscotta, Maine, he was the cherished son of William H. and Emma (Davis) Alley. William spent his formative years in Southport, where he developed a deep love for the sea and nature that would guide him throughout his life.
A fisherman for most of his days, William embraced the rhythm of the ocean, dedicating his life to catching the bounty it provided. He spent years skillfully navigating the waters, not only as a longlinefisherman off the Grand Banks of Newfoundland but also as a cook on oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. His resourcefulness extended beyond the waves; he also took pride in his work as a stone mason, crafting beauty with his hands.
Beyond his many trades, William was a spirited individual with talents that flourished in the kitchen. He loved to cook and found joy in singing. An artist at heart, William's creativity knew no bounds, and he shared it with all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
William was predeceased by his parents, his son Darrell Alley, and daughters Clara Mello and Deborah Lopez.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Lucille Crafts of Lewiston, Sarah Schram of Bath, Rosemary Stone of Florida; his sons, William H. Alley of Nobleboro, Robert Alley of Augusta, and James Alley of Portland; along with 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who will carry his legacy forward.
A memorial service to celebrate William's life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wiscasset Church of the Nazarene, 255 Gardiner Road, Wiscasset.
In lieu of flower, donations can be made to The First, c/o Lucille Crafts, 77 Oak St., Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538, to help cover William's final expenses.
He will be missed, but his spirit and memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
