Foundation promoting hold on big aquaculture projects does not appear, due to illness
Protect Maine's Fishing Heritage Foundation canceled its May 6 appearance before Wiscasset's selectboard, Selectmen's Chair Sarah Whitfield announced in that night's meeting. A Foundation spokesman told Wiscasset Newspaper May 13, the cancellation was due to illness.
According to advance documents for the meeting, the Foundation was looking for Wiscasset to consider a 180-day moratorium on industrial-scale aquaculture development.
Town Manager Dennis Simmons noted ahead of the meeting, there are no known proposals in town for industrial-scale aquaculture.
Also May 6, the meeting brought no new word on the name, nature, or anything else about the undisclosed company that has sought information from the town, and whose inquiry Simmons has said "appears to be a serious and promising opportunity."
The board nodded Sea Basket's (303 Bath Road) liquor and business licenses; a business license for antiques business Ley Lines, 64 Main St.; and Cubbyhole Sports Pub's (213 West Alna Road) special amusement permit for music in 2025-26.
Whitfield read aloud a proclamation for Emergency Medical Services Week, May 18-24. May 17 from 3 to 7 p.m. is the open house at the town's new training facility at Scout Hall on Lincoln Street.
And the board nodded closing Railroad Avenue for Wormfest May 31. "Hoping it'll be even bigger and better," said Whitfield, one of Wormfest's organizers. She abstained from the vote.
