At about 1:41 p.m. Friday, July 24, Sagadahoc County Regional Communications Center (911) received a report of smoke in the area of Georgetown General Store.

Georgetown Fire Department personnel arrived on scene within minutes and reported a rapidly expanding woods fire measuring about 200 yards by 200 yards. Due to the fire's growth and potential for further spread, mutual aid resources were immediately requested.

Firefighters from Arrowsic, Woolwich, West Bath, and Maine Forest Service responded to assist with fire suppression efforts. Additional support was provided by Maine Forestry Service helicopters, Sagadahoc County Emergency Management Agency, the Sagadahoc County Drone Team, Dresden Fire Department, Wiscasset Fire Department, Topsham Fire & Rescue, Richmond Fire Department and Brunswick Fire & Rescue.

Through the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies, crews were able to quickly contain and knock down the fire, preventing further spread.

Firefighters and forestry personnel planned to remain on scene to extinguish remaining hot spots and monitor the area to ensure the fire did not rekindle.The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

Their coordinated efforts helped bring the incident under control quickly and safely.
