Mary Elizabeth Stacy, 68, of Wiscasset passed away on June 1, 2019 after a brave battle with illness.

Mary was the daughter of the late Arnold C. and Dorothy Onischuk Stacy of Gardner, Massachusetts and the granddaughter of the late Frances Stacy of Westport Island, Maine. She was very close to her late great aunts, Eleanor Smith and Mary Wright, the former owners of Squire Tarbox Inn also on Westport Island.

Mary was a 1969 graduate of Gardner High School and a 1973 graduate of Framingham State College where she majored in biology. Her love of Maine was rooted in her childhood and young adult years spending summers on Westport Island and working in Boothbay Harbor. After college graduation she was determined to live in Maine the rest of her life. Mary was employed by Lincoln County for 37 years. She served most of that time as deputy treasurer. She was very active in the Maine County Treasurer’s Association serving as secretary/treasurer for 22 years.

Mary loved to shop and “sale” was her favorite sign! She frequented craft fairs and yard sales. Many people whose lives she touched will remember the multiple holiday gift bags she lovingly prepared for them filled with treats and small gifts. Valentine’s Day, Easter, Halloween and Christmas were high on her list. Buying Christmas gifts for everyone’s children also was very important to her.

Mary leaves many dear friends, co-workers, family and neighbors. Heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at New England Cancer Specialists, her other medical providers and especially to the staff at Bodwell House in Brunswick who lovingly cared for Mary during the last few months.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 23 at the Westport Community Church on Westport Island. A reception will immediately follow the service at the Westport Island Town Hall. Burial will be private.
