AUGUSTA – Sen. Chloe Maxmin, D-Nobleboro, is pleased to share the details of Maine’s three-year transportation infrastructure work plan, and what it means for Lincoln County and the towns of Washington and Windsor. The plan is released annually with an outline of the Maine Department of Transportation’s strategy for road, bridge and other transportation upgrades and maintenance projects.

“Many of us who live in rural communities know firsthand how essential safe bridges and roads are to getting us where we need to go – for school, work, the doctor and everything else,” said Sen. Maxmin. “The maintenance, improvements and additions to our infrastructure that are included in this plan are absolutely essential to our everyday lives.”

According to the MDOT, the work plan covers approximately $2.71 billion worth of construction and maintenance, which includes 2,180 work items. The three-year plan estimates MDOT will invest in 100 miles of highway construction and rehabilitation; 893 miles of pavement preservation; 2,175 miles of light capital paving for roads and highways; 222 safety and spot improvements; and 166 bridge projects.

The following breakdown is the planned capital and maintenance work for the communities in Senate District 13 in 2021:

Bridge Work:

In Bath and Wiscasset, rehabilitation of the Rockland 36.24 Rail Bridge over Sewalls Creek and Rockland 50.49 Rail Bridge over the Sheepscot River located on the Rockland Branch rail line.
In Waldoboro, rehabilitation of the Rockland Rail Bridge 65.91 over the Medomak River located on the Rockland Branch rail line.
In Waldoboro, replacement of the Wagner Number Two Bridge over Hoak Brook located 0.3 of a mile south of Depot Street on Route 32.
In Jefferson, repairing wingwalls on Gerry Bridge which carries Route 215 over the Dyer River located 270 feet north of County Road.
In Whitefield, repairing wearing surface on Partridge Bridge which carries Route 126 over the Sheepscot River located 0.18 of a mile east of Benner Lane.
In Washington, repairing wearing surface on Branch Bridge which carries Route 126 over Davis Stream located 0.1 of a mile east of Fitch Road.
In Newcastle, replacing wearing surface on North Newcastle Bridge which carries Route 194 over the Dyer River located 480 feet north of Hassan Avenue.

Custodial Maintenance:

In Whitefield, tree and brush removal on Route 218 beginning with the intersection of Head Tide Road and Route 218 extending north 4.34 miles to the intersection of Route 218 and Route 126.
In Whitefield and Alna, tree and brush removal on Route 194 beginning with the intersection of Route 194 and Route 218 extending south 4.49 miles to the intersection of Head Tide Road and Route 194.
In Newcastle, ditching on Route 213 beginning at Jones Woods Road heading north 1.87 miles to the Newcastle-Jefferson town line.
In Washington, ditching on Route 105 beginning at the Somerville-Washington town line extending south 1.91 miles then east 3.47 miles to Route 220.

Drainage Maintenance:

In Boothbay Harbor, drainage improvements on Atlantic Avenue beginning 0.15 of a mile south of Bay Street and extending south 0.37 of a mile.
In Whitefield, replacement of the large culvert on Route 194 located 0.73 of a mile south of Jewett Lane.
In Edgecomb, replacement of the large culvert on River Road located 0.94 of a mile north of McKay Road.
In Waldoboro, replacement of the large culvert on Finntown Road located on the Waldoboro-Friendship town line.
In Newcastle, Edgecomb and Boothbay, ditching and replacing culverts in various places on the River Road, beginning with Castlewood Road and extending south 6.75 miles to the Walker Road.
In Jefferson, ditching and replacing culverts in various places on Route 2013, beginning with Route 126 and extending south 7.32 miles to the Jefferson-Newcastle town line.

Bicycle/Pedestrian:

In Damariscotta, construction of sidewalk on Main Street beginning 0.01 of a mile south of Church Street and extending north 0.35 of a mile.

Highway Paving:

In Nobleboro and Waldoboro, 1 1/4” overlay on Route 1 beginning 0.07 of a mile east of East Pond Road and extending east 3.31 miles.
In Edgecomb and Newcastle, ultra-thin bonded wearing course on Route 1 beginning 1.41 miles east of the Wiscasset town line and extending northeast 2.78 miles.
In Bremen, Bristol and Waldoboro, light capital paving on Route 32 beginning at Bristol Road and extending north 19.60 miles.
In Chelsea and Whitefield, light capital paving on Cooper Road beginning at Grand Army Road and extending northwest 3.78 miles to Augusta Rockland Road.
In Damariscotta, light capital paving on Route 1B beginning at Hodgdon Street and extending northeast 2.4 miles.
In Damariscotta and Nobleboro, light capital paving on Center Street beginning at the south intersection of Route 1 and extending north 2.74 miles to the north intersection of Route 1.
In Jefferson, light capital paving on Village Street beginning at Route 126 and extending northeast 0.7 of a mile.
In Jefferson and Nobleboro, light capital paving on East Pond Road beginning at Route 1 and extending north 6.95 miles to Route 32.
In Jefferson and Washington, light capital paving on Route 126 beginning at Route 126 and extending north 4.7 miles to Route 220.
In Liberty, Waldoboro and Washington, light capital paving on Route 220 beginning at Route 1 and extending north 15.7 miles to Route 105.
In Palermo and Somerville, light capital paving on Turner Ridge Road beginning at Route 105 and extending north 5.57 miles to Route 3.

Highway Construction, Safety and Spot Improvements:

In Windsor, improvements at the intersection of Route 17 and Route 32.
In Wiscasset, construct northbound left-turn lane at Old Bath Road and Route 1 intersection.
In Wiscasset, construct southbound left-turn lane at Birch Point Road and Route 1 intersection.
In Wiscasset, construct left-turn lane and right-turn lane at Route 144 and Route 1 intersection.

Aviation

At Wiscasset Municipal Airport, safety and infrastructure improvements that may include design, permitting and reconstruction of Runway 7-25 to include obstruction removal phase 3.
