Volunteers take spotlight at Knox-Lincoln Counties Extension Association annual meeting
Come learn about the diverse array of programs delivered by Cooperative Extension through the eyes and experiences of our essential volunteers — the role they have played, what they have learned, and how they have benefited from serving their community in this way.
Please join us at 5:30 p.m. to meet with University of Maine Cooperative Extension staff and executive committee members, view extension displays and enjoy refreshments.
Volunteer presentations will begin at 6 p.m., featuring the following KLCEA programs:
Teen & Young Parent Program/Maine Families: The first three years of a child's life are the building blocks that shape how the brain is built, laying the foundation for success later in life. Maine Families home-visitors partner with any family expecting or with a newborn in Knox, Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties.
Maine Healthy Beaches: This program relies on diverse volunteers up and down the coast to monitor the water quality at our local beaches, notifying the public if health risks are detected and identifying problem areas for investigation.
Signs of the Seasons: A true example of citizen science, this program uses volunteers throughout the state to report observations of phenology (the timing of seasonal changes) in their local environment that are being used in documenting the effects of a changing climate.
Master Gardeners: After more than 45 hours of in-depth training in the art and science of horticulture, volunteers give back to their communities by passing on their knowledge and expertise doing educational programs for children and adults, and growing produce for food pantries and soup kitchens through Maine Harvest for Hunger.
4-H Youth Development: A well known and respected learning-by-doing program for kids to develop leadership, citizenship and life skills.
Directly following the presentations, there will be a regular KLCEA business meeting from 7 to 7:30 p.m. Public comments on KLCEA programs are encouraged — we want to hear from you!
