Regional School Unit 12 schools closed Monday; outages remain
All Regional School Unit 12 schools are closed Monday, Nov. 3, due to blocked roads and widespread power outages, the district’s superintendent Howard Tuttle states in an alert sent out at 5:26 a.m. Monday.
Wiscasset schools are open today; their buses did run to towns that are in RSU 12 but that have students who attend Wiscasset schools, Wiscasset School Department administrative assistant Stacey Souza said.
Shortly before 6 a.m. Monday, several Lincoln County roads or parts of roads were blocked, including Route 218 in Alna between Sheepscot and Cross roads; Boothbay’s Pension Ridge, Sawyers Island, Barters Island, and East Side; Boothbay Harbor’s McKown Point, Park, Reed, Rock and Lobster Cove; in Jefferson and Newcastle, parts of Route 213 and River Road in Newcastle; in Somerville, Frye and Somerville roads; in Nobleboro, Back Meadow and Street Side; and in Bristol, Poor Farm, Southern Point and Route 32 south of Lower Pond Road, a Lincoln County sheriff’s dispatcher said.
The county still had most of the power outages that occurred during the day and early evening Sunday. Central Maine Power reported 14,657 customers out, just over half of its total customers for Lincoln County.
The towns with the highest numbers of outages were in Bristol and South Bristol, Boothbay, Damariscotta, Jefferson and Waldoboro.
