Snow moves back Twin Villages meeting
A joint meeting has been rescheduled due to weather.
The Damariscotta Waterfront Project Committee's open house that was scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5 has been rescheduled due to the weather.
The meeting will now be held from 5:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Great Salt Bay Community School.
The meeting, which is a joint venture between Newcastle and Damariscotta's select boards, the Waterfront Project Committee, the Damariscotta Region Chamber of Commerce and the Twin Villages Alliance, will highlight the work that has been done so far regarding the reconstruction and future plans of the large parking lot in Damariscotta.
The current parking lot suffers from poor drainage and is considered high-risk in terms of flood coverage, especially when tidal surge and rising sea level are taken into account.
New potential plans for the parking lot include improved walkability, more parking spaces, bathrooms, a revamped “Misery Gulch” and even a shipbuilding theme to reflect Damariscotta's maritime past.
The cost of the project is dependent on what is added to the lot; but early estimates go from approximately $1,000,000 to rebuild the lot, and up to $2,500,000 for the full project that would include new bathrooms, etc.
That money is expected to be raised by donations and grants to try and minimize the taxpayer burden.
