Consultants review Wiscasset Ambulance Service
A consulting team’s review of Wiscasset Ambulance Service is a great opportunity to find ways to improve the department, Director Roland Abbott said Feb. 5.
Staff will take part in a survey and confidential interviews in connection with the work, that may yield 20 to 50 recommendations within two to three months, Michael Pardue of The Tideview Group told selectmen on Feb. 3. Plans called for a kickoff meeting with ambulance staff later that evening, including a presentation on workplace culture and workplace and sexual harassment, Pardue said.
Pardue described the survey as a very effective tool.
“It gives us an excellent understanding of some of the challenges and the positive and sometimes the not so positive aspects of any organization,” he said. “(It) helps us ... determine where there are areas that we can make recommendations to improve the service delivery and the interpersonal operations of the organization.”
The Kennebunk-based firm has both public and private clients. The firm helped Richmond find its police chief, Wiscasset Town Manager Marian Anderson said. The town will be paying $70 an hour for the services, in addition to $35 an hour for travel time and mileage costs at the Internal Revenue Service’s approved rate at the time, Anderson states in a Feb. 10 email.
The survey that employees complete will be anonymous and cover several topics, including equipment, training, the work environment and supervision, the firm’s representatives told selectmen.
Personnel, technology, facilities and compliance with policies and procedures will all be part of the firm’s assessment of the ambulance service, Pardue said.
