‘A foot or more’ of snow possible this weekend
Midcoast residents may want to start crossing their shovel-weary fingers that a storm this weekend tracks far enough away to minimize new snowfall. Depending on its track, the nor’easter could bring as few as six inches or a much higher amount, meteorologist Tom Hawley of the National Weather Service’s Gray office said.
“It could turn out to be quite a storm, of a foot or more. We’re just not sure on the track,” Hawley said Thursday morning. He also was expecting snow for Thursday afternoon through about dawn on Friday, totaling about a half-inch in Lincoln County.
However, the weekend storm could be the next big one in a succession that has made for high snowbanks, plenty of work for plow drivers and several canceled and delayed school days. Hawley said the weather service should have a better idea Friday on the storm’s track. Snow will likely start Saturday night and continue through Sunday night, he said. So far, it appears that winds could be running 30 mph or greater, which would mean more of the blowing and drifting snow the region has had recently.
