Jason A. "Skippy" Simpson died unexpectedly on Feb. 12, 2015.

Jason was born in Waterville on Dec. 13, 1974 to parents Annette and Michael. He grew up in the Woolwich-Wiscasset area, attending grade school at Woolwich Central and graduating from Wiscasset High School in 1993.

During high school he was employed at Bert's Exxon and Montsweag Restaurant. Shortly after graduating he began work at Bath Iron Works, then he earned his Journeyman's license as an electrician. He then decided to become a long haul trucker, beginning his career with R.C. Moore Trucking. He owned and operated a successful business, Performance Enterprise, for seven years. Most recently, he worked for Tyson Foods’ trucking division for the past 12 years.

At the age of 15, Jason bravely served his community volunteering for the Woolwich Fire Department. For the past 25 years he served in many roles, most recently as the Safety Training Officer. He saw a need in the fire department for reestablishing the Women’s Auxiliary. This brought a wonderful group together to support the men and women of the department. This past year he took so much pride in organizing the Fire Department Open House during Fire Prevention Week.

He had a passion to bring joy to everyone especially to children. Skippy could always be counted on to be behind the popcorn and cotton candy machine at community and family functions. He enjoyed making sure every child received their special treats.

Jason loved to create lasting memories with his family and friends by going camping, taking road trips and shooting off fireworks. He greatly enjoyed playing baseball with his children. He was only a call away and was one of the first people to respond to someone in need of help.

Skippy had flair and was known for his practical jokes. You never knew what to expect, from decorating his friend’s house with Christmas trees and wreaths in March to placing oversized birthday cakes on their lawns, no one was exempt from his shenanigans.

Jason is survived by his three children, Abigail, Connor and Emily; his mother, Annette (Anton) Simpson; father, Michael; brother, Ethan; grandmother, Rachel Wilson; and fiancé, Stacey Knight; plus numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his uncle, Mark Anton; grandmother, Marcy Anton; and grandfather, Robert Simpson.

Jason was beloved by many and his memory and legacy will be carried on in the hearts and minds of those he touched, never to be forgotten.

Service will be held at the Wiscasset High School on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 at 2 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Woolwich Fire Dept. Association Benevolent Fund, 13 Nequasset Road, Woolwich, ME 04579 or the Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 27 Atlantic Hwy., P.O. Box 7, Edgecomb, ME 04556.
